Welcome to the site of works by Ira W. Schwartz (1922-1984)

Ira Schwartz (1922-1984) was born in Brooklyn, NY. He served in the second World War and trained at the Grand Central Art School, the Brooklyn Museum School and attended the Art Student's League on the GI Bill. His paintings have been included in group shows at the Museum of Modern Art, the Brooklyn Museum of Art, the Pennsylvania Academy, American Academy of Arts and Letters, the Butler Institute of Art, Pennsylvania State University Museum of Art, Pennsylvania Academy, and various galleries around the country.

He had solo exhibitions during the 1960s and 1970s in New York City at the following galleries; Durlacher Galleries, Phoenix Gallery, the Port Washington Library, F.A.R Gallery.

Schwartz’s Paintings are included in many permanent collections including the Brooklyn Museum, David Rockefeller Collection, John Hay Whitney Collection, Faberge Inc. and Cary Grant.

In addition to his painting career, Ira Schwartz was a well known and award winning package designer with his own firm called Schwartz Wassyng followed by Ira Schwartz Design. Both firms designed products and packaging for some of the most iconic brands of the 1960s and 1970s such as Revlon, Faberge, Seiko, Coca-Cola. Seagrams and Mattel.
